A mid-August evening has a rhythm all its own. The repetitive swish of lawn sprinklers. The agitated buzzing of horseflies. The monotonous drone of neighbourhood lawn mowers. And a familiar thump on the veranda. Just outside the screen door.
A sound which can mean only one thing at this time of year. The arrival of the Sears Christmas WishBook. An ideal accompaniment to 40C temperatures.
But if you look hard enough, Halloween can be found anywhere. And there it was. Between the tattoo kits and the Fur Real animals. A small selection of costumes with trick-or-treating potential. With, of course, some clear distinctions.
It seems boys are invited to choose from a variety of television and movie characters from the past year (weapons included). While girls can choose from a selection composed largely of princesses and fairies.
With Batgirl and Supergirl thrown in for the truly radical.
