Skeleton Brooch

This is a fun idea for a brooch; and the studded skeleton hand comes complete with a tutorial!

Isn't that thoughtful? I want to make one now.

READY FOR HALLOWEEN DAY 2: Deadening Up Your Walls

Some people 'liven' things up, some of us just don't.

My bedroom is vaguely (and by vaguely, I mean not so you would notice) nautically themed. It's a perfect area for me to create and display a bone-framed 'sealife specimen' frame.

Bless your little heart, Martha Stewart -- I'm ticked at your lack of enthusiasm for the grand holiday this year, but I still appreciate the dreary decor your staff dream up.

Now, a few cobwebs put in their places and this would be a wonderfully gloomy addition to my abode.

Happy Haunting!

Critical Path

Only 6 weeks remain until the house is crawling
with miniature rapscallions clamoring for attention.
Six weeks until summer distractions become
priority number one and business plans, schedules
and soon to be fleshed out sketches collect dust
in the corner. It's time to get crackin!

Cliffhanger

Finding myself on the precipice of a precarious
path. Not exactly a difficult dilemma but a
situation where difficult decisions must
be made in a very timely manor. My Crystal
Ball is foggy and my Magic 8 Ball is stuck
in a continuous loop of "cannot predict now."
Time to locate that internal compass and
head for that horizon.

...so go make some more! Woman's Day posted this really great doomsday cuckoo clock idea; unfortunately, someone forgot to supply the pattern. Tsk, tsk!

So I made something that might help those who really want to make one - hope it helps:

what I got for Christmas

Had I been smarter, I would have put some food coloring in the water before filling the ice cube tray.

BUT LOOK HOW SPLENDID IT IS!I I love my grandmother; she got me the bonechillers icecube trays for Christmas. I'm pretty sure she bought them at Z Gallerie.

What do you think the best drink to start using these in would be?

Stationary

I stole the little piece of art I liked so much in the Danse Macabre post.

And made it blank so it can be easily relabeled.

It might make nice Halloween stationary, but that would require resizing. I'm sick and just don't have the energy to resize and make it look nice. :( I'm sorry. I probably shouldn't be editing it in the first place.

Gosh, I really don't feel good today.

Danse Macabre: Skeleman Illustrations

skeleton danse macabreThis very dapper Skeleton was found via the Danse Macabre online collection provided by Cornell University.

I think this one is my favorite: Todtendanz fuer alle Staende (poorly translated: Danse macabre for every occasion).

Danse Macabre - images of skeletons that represent the living of various status and station to remind us that we all must die. It's the more universal, artistic take on the notion of Momento Mori.
Ich habe gehabt [vil arbeit gross]
Der sweis mir du[rch die haut floss]
Noch wolde ich ger[n dem tod empfliehen]
Zo habe ich des glu[cks nit hie]
I had to work very much and very hard
The sweat was running down my skin
I’d like to escape death nonetheless
But here I won’t have any luck
Sometimes I think it's helpful to remember, as Mr. Vonnegut said, "I tell you, we are here on Earth to fart around, and don't let anybody tell you different. "

You've only got so much time. Use it to inspire yourself. Happy Sunday.

Unrequited Love

In this time of chubby cherubs brandishing quivers of arrows,
Hallmark stores overflowing with all things red and pink,
and Chocolatiers and Florists feverishly working overtime,
let us not forget those poor, unfortunate souls suffering from
unrequited love. For centuries it has been the fodder
for Poets, Writers and Musicians. Unrequited love was the
Achilleas heel of Cyrano, Phantom, and Hunchback.
The portrayal of the stoic willingness to accept suffering of
such pitiful characters keeps the art industry alive.

"A mighty pain to love it is,
And 'tis a pain that pain to miss;
But of all pains, the greatest pain
It is to love, but love in vain."
