Blogger to Die For: Diane

The November Blogger to Die For Award goes out to the Diane of Good Mourning, Glory!

Awarded to Diane, November 2009
From Good Mourning, Glory!

What You'll Find There... Dark Etsy-Art, truly brave personal notes on family and mental illness, various odds and ends of the tone I enjoy.
This Blogger... is an inspirational mother with a creative soul.
You Should Check It Out If... you need to feel good about people today. Diane is special and brings a beautiful humanity to the blogosphere.

I recommend...
taking a gander at her etsy products. Her mixed media is lovely, and I've coveted one or two adornment items she's crafted. This year's Halloween photos are adorable!

But most of all, just wander slowly through her entries. This girl has so much heart -- she shares her love and frustration with tremendous candor. Her blog is amazingly fun and touching at the same time.

The Blogger to Die For award is picked using a method for organized randomness (i.e. their blog is in my reading list, and they are the most recent poster when I draft this thing each month) because I can't pick favorites in any kind of order - the next blogger to die for winner will be announced on December 13th

Blogger to Die For: Ghoul Friday

The October Blogger to Die For Award goes out to the Ghoul Friday of My Ghoul Friday!

Awarded to Ghoul Friday, October 2009
From Ghoul Friday

What You'll Find There... Truly unique Halloween art and decor projects by a very talented Ghoul.
This Blogger... Is too good to be true.
You Should Check It Out If... you know what's good for you.

I recommend...
What don't I recommend over at GF's site? I have had a total haunt-crush on Ghoul Friday site since the first visit, when I ran across the Edmund's Abandoned Carousel project.

You have to see your way over to the 'Horrific How-to's,' but please don't forget the 'Art Ghoullery,' where you can see themes from parties past. Monster Hunter Lodge? It's so brilliant!

Please meet the Underbiters on your visit. They are adorable in a childhood-nightmares-personified kind of way; if I could, I would adopt them all.

Blogger to Die For: The Captain

The September Blogger to Die For Award goes out to the The Captain (Jason) of The Captain's Ramblings!

Awarded to the Captain, September 2009
From The Captain's Ramblings

What You'll Find There... A man who loves vintage spook-shows and always has the new movie art/trailer up before everyone else; seriously, I don't know how he does it (except that one time I got the leaked Alice in Wonderland trailer up, like, maybe 5 minutes before him -- but methinks that was a fluke).
This Blogger... is one of my favorite people on the web. So help me Christopher Lee, you could not ask for better blogger interaction -- even if he weren't full of interesting finds in his own right, he's one of the most supportive and friendly bloggers a haunt-fiend can know.
You Should Check It Out If... you are a fan of Spook-show style horror or ever want a little bit of Halloween Horror Night indulgence from an insider (the Captain works for the competition Universal).

I recommend... the Captain himself. This blog is all about little bits of bites of his interests, his projects, and horror-movie happenings... all a reflection of the man himself.

Lately he's been posting more and more vintage spook-stuff that is absolutely fabulous! There is a great humor behind his particular brand of horror-love, and his finds make me nostalgic for a kind of tongue-and-cheek creepy that I never knew existed. The Captain's enthusiasm for all things eerie is invigorating.

His blog is eclectic, and wonderfully so: you'll find topics ranging from horror to home haunting. Don't leave without taking the Oath of the Count Dracula Society and checking out his props. :)

Blogger to Die For: the Frog Queen!

The August Blogger to Die For Award goes out to the Frog Queen of Frog on the Pumpkin and The Davis House!

Awarded to the Frog Queen, August 2009
From Frog on the Pumpkin

What You'll Find There... Amusing stories, pictures of in-the-works projects from The Davis Graveyard (omg check out their gallery), and the occasional mention of Frogs. :)
This Blogger... is funny, sweet, and incredibly creative. She makes living and breathing home haunt happiness seem like a neighborly group effort that everyone should participate in!
You Should Check It Out If... you are new to haunting, old to haunting, interested in haunting - her blog is an encouraging endorsement to be part of the larger haunt community; the more you read the Frog Queen's stories about haunt conventions, the more you'll want to go!

I love about the Frog Queen that she takes the time to make everyone feel appreciated and welcomed. She's full of upbeat comments for her blogger friends and lends helpful advice whenever she can.

Did I mention she is helping me with wedding stationary? And by helping, I should really say, 'going so far above and beyond being helpful that I can't thank her enough.' I can't wait until it's final so I can show everyone!! She's remarkable, that Frog Queen.

How can you not love a tastefully spooky lady who sometimes posts LOL Cats? I simply adore her.

I recommend... Reading about the skull that caught on fire, then ogling the deck that houses the skulls in question. And if you don't giggle at the Garden Tour Prank, then I'm not sure you appreciate comedy. Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for Frog Queen follies.

Also, the Davis Graveyard Tombstones are items of ENVY; if you are even remotely close to Portland, Oregon may I suggest you take a workshop? I would.

Blogger to Die For: Natalie!

The July Blogger to Die For Award goes out to Natalie of natty♣michelle!

Awarded to Natalie, July 2009
From natty♣michelle

What You'll Find There... This girl is an artist and a lover of life, and you'll see that reflected in her posting topics. Everything from unusual statuary to home decor ideas to meal planning finds to use the next time you have guests over.
This Blogger... is kind of what I would be like if I weren't all dark, twisted, and into Halloween. For being such a sunny person, she sure has nice taste in blog topics.
You Should Check It Out If... you're looking for relaxation and inspiration; reading her blog is like taking in a leisurely summer afternoon. It just makes you smile.

This is an unusual and unexpected one: a blog I only added to my reading list last week and more peculiarly... she's an IRL friend. No joke, I think she's one of only two people who I know in person and adored long before realizing they had a blog and added it to my reading list.

Natalie is smitten with one of the most amazing boys in the world, which is how I met her. When I first ran across her blog last week, she had just shared the coolest photo series of Fallen Princesses. I just had to "follow" along after seeing that.

Besides, how can I not adore a girl who posts about octopus rings and liked our Save the Dates enough to post about them?

I recommend... Her Friday posts. Each Friday she posts lists of the neat things she's stumbled across during the week, and there is always something there worth reading.

Blogger to Die For: Mr. Macabre

The June Blogger to Die For Award is Mr. Macabre of Mr. Macabre's Hallowe'en Cerebrations!

Awarded to Mr. Macabre, May 2009
From Mr. Macabre's Hallowe'en Cerebrations

What You'll Find There... Thursday Halloween Book reviews, A love of Halloween, and the perfect touch of southern charm
This Blogger... is ridiculously endearing
You Should Check It Out If... you enjoy humor, home, and Halloween all rolled up in one place

Mr. Macabre is one of my favorite readers and definitely one of my favorite bloggers. Maybe it's because he lives a state over and I enjoy his occasional southernisms, maybe it's because he writes things like "H-E-Double-Hockey-Sticks!" when I would be cussing up a storm, but whatever it is I find his blog unbelievably engaging and (hopefully he won't be offended by this word) completely endearing.

Mr. Macabre's Hallowe'en Cerebrations is aspirational for me - it blends home and holiday seamlessly. His love of good food, tasty desserts, posts about his garden and Halloweeny decor make his blog indispensable to my reading list: he makes having Halloween-home seem so happy and normal. :)

I recommend... his Halloween/Haunted Book reviews (which happen around Thursday each week) and this post (hope you don't find it too gross; I find it terribly amusing)

Blogger to Die For: SheWalksSoftly.com

There are many fantastic blogs on my reading list that you'll get a taste of in the coming months, but the top article when I wrote this post and our first winner of Blogger to Die For Award is Dana of SheWalksSoftly:

Awarded to Dana, May 2009
From She Walks Softly

What You'll Find There... Art of all kinds, unusual themes and strange vintage items to gawk at
This Blogger... is a woman of strong visual sensibilities that I deeply admire
You Should Check It Out If... you like the elegant, the macabre, and a little bit of humor all rolled up into one amazing package

Like most blogs I read regularly, I don't remember how I found this one; I won't bore you with details I can't recall. No one wants to hear me make stuff up.

What I do know is that every time this blog is updated I find myself inspired. The amazing imagery she shares is always stunning and diverse. The posts are often image-heavy (which I love, love, love!) and the text perfectly digestible.

It's a visual treat over there.

I recommend... clicking on "candy coated nightmares" in her tag cloud. (bonus points for finding Robbie Rabbit there)

Blogger to Die For Award

The zombie chicken award this past week got me thinking... I really want a way to periodically draw attention to those bloggers who inspire me to keep blogging and whose blogs I would not want to live without.

And so starting on the 13th, for the sake of gushing over bloggers I adore, I will give you the Blogger to Die For award.

Blogger to Die For Award
Awarded to [BLOGGER NAME], month YEAR
From Creepy Cupcakes - Halloween Things

Each month I will post about a blogger I find praise-worthy. The rules for the award are as follows:
  1. Only bloggers who post consistently interesting material (i.e. who I really like reading) will be considered
  2. The awarded blog can be on any topic, not just Halloween/Creepiness
  3. The blogger will be chosen at 'random' -- in this instance meaning the most relevant, interesting, and recent post in my reading list (whenever I draft the award post - which could be any time) will earn that month's award ... you guys are just too good for me to pick my 'favorites' in any kind of order
  4. No blogger will be awarded more than once on this blog, even if they are the most awesomest awesome to ever awesome
  5. The chosen blogger doesn't have to follow my blog or leave me comments, but for the sake of full disclosure: those who interact with me cause me to *heart* their blogs with incredible enthusiasm ;)
  6. Any of you are welcome to take/adjust the code for the award and present it to bloggers at the top of your own list, so long as you: a) leave me a comment when you've given the award to a worthy blogger -- I might like to start reading them myself, and b) please try to credit the Creepy Cupcakes blog in some way.

I'm sure you'll see some blogs you already love featured, and hopefully this will also place some excellent blogs you don't read yet on your radar. ;)
