A fast project for Halloween: spooky tealight bags. How-to at Martha's site, but this is an easy one for anyone with a craft knife. The bags really are most dramatic staggered up outdoor stairs or on a hill.
I recommend putting an empty glass jar (I keep all my old spaghetti jars, very unsurprisingly) in the finished bag designs and placing your tealight in that - less chance of the bag burning or tipping over. For that matter, use these outside preferably on a concrete surface that won't catch fire easily.
Sand works too, of course, but glass is just so easy to clean out - and at least for me, more readily available than clean sand.
