Oh wait. Living the Halloween lifestyle, and planning my Hallowedding. That was it!
I'm working on some DIY lumina pumpkins for my wedding, to be used as centerpieces. I'm also considering some other Halloween-happy settings, but this is by far the easiest (and if I water proof them they can live outside for years to come).
I drew inspiration from Stolloween's page to make the basic shape:
- create the basic pumpkin shape by bunching up a bunch of grocery bags, tying them with string to create the ridges.
- cover in a few thin coatings of paper mache strips (I used AranaMuerta's recipe, as mentioned previously)
- once dried, I cut the stars out carefully, along with a big hole in the bottom.
- I did not unstuff my pumpkin at this point; I left it in there to hold the shape while I applied paper mache mud for shape and texture. Once dry, I removed the stuffing.
- painted the whole pumpkin (inside and out) a flat black
- once dry, I dry brushed the pumpkin with white and cream colored paint... the stem is brown, but I'm not happy with it yet. I think a gray-cream would be better (I also think I might do a creamier base, rather than black, next time before doing the white).
Why the stars you ask, and not a wonderful Jack? I'm trying to "tone it down" for my wedding. I want it to be Halloween-happy, but have even the Hallowlacking people think it's neat. Compromise.
I'm open to suggestions on other fun Halloweeny centerpieces that I could make/mache. I'm already working on a witches hat, but my lack of patience caused me to pull it up before it was done drying -- now the brim is warped. :) Ahh well. Live and learn.
