A Wedding Question (and some moaning)

I have a huge question to ask - what's your experience with fog machines?

My Mom has decided that a Hallowedding simply must have fog (and I don't disagree), especially low-lying fog either around the drink station or the dance floor.

For all my Hallow-weeniness, I have never, ever, ever owned/made/used a fog machine. Anyone have any experience or recommendations for buying, renting, or making such a thing? Here are the problems and concerns:
  • The wedding is outside
  • The fog machine shouldn't stick out like a poor thumb (seen several homemade ones out of Styrofoam coolers - hard to hide such things)
  • I'm very conscious of wanting fog juice that is environmentally friendly and won't be treacherous to friends and family with breathing problems
Any thoughts would be helpful.

...now for some mild whining, if you'll please forgive me.

I hate shopping. Dress shopping, doubly so. But today I headed out with my mom and cousin/bridesmaid, and did some bridesmaid dress browsing. Straight away we found a dress that I love, love, love: Max & Cleo Ruched Jersey Taffeta Party Dress

Extra-awesome is that there was a dress just like it (maybe a little less ruching and not quite as much fabric in the skirt) by Jessica Howard for half the price. Since no one at the store we went to had the time to be very helpful *cough*Dillards*cough* partly due to another customer being needy/problematic, we had the girl write down the names of the brand names of each line with her assurance that both dresses, since they were not on sale, could be found online.

The Max and Cleo version is easy to find. On several sites, no less. The Jessica Howard? You'd think the dress never existed. The bigger problem? One of my bridesmaids is plus-sized, and the Max and Cleo dress I can only find in standard sizing (Jessica Howard dresses seem to frequently come in women's sizing as well, so it was really my big hope).

There are plenty of similar dresses out there, but what made these two work really was the fabrics used: the taffeta skirt was perfectly full and kinder than jersey can be to hips, while the jersey top was comfortably form-fitting and attractive.

I'm not trying to be childish getting all worked up over this minor setback - push to shove and I just falter back on David's Bridal (1, 2, 3 - but really, all their fabrics feel bridesmaidy) or say, "tea length black dress, a-line skirt - go!" - but I really liked those dresses, the price was really reasonable, and my friends all seem to just want me to tell them what to get rather than picking for themselves.

Maybe I mostly don't want to have to go make the decision again, but I really did love those dresses. It's not often a dress makes me excited. Guess I should go back to Dillard's in the morning and ask in person about sizing, dress in hand. Fiddlesticks!

On the side of good things, though (and to show you I'm not really a negative nellie), I did get shoes! Super comfy, and being dyed orange. :)
