The Great Confectionery Debate

So what do you call the very small pieces of confectionery used to decorate or add texture to desserts? Supposedly it depends are where you're from. Most people here in the US call them Sprinkles. Folks from Boston, Philadelphia, and Michigan call them Jimmies. And if you're from the UK, Hundreds-and-Thousands. I prefer to call them happy dots.
Food always looks happier when covered in these sweet treats.

This Cheeky Kone sprinkled with Happy Dots will post tonight on eBay. Click here for link!

The magic mailbox delivers again! If you happen to pick up
a copy of the October issue Country Living Magazine,
(the one with the oh so amazingHalloween cat cake on the cover)
,
check out the Home Front section beginning
on page 21. There you will see three of my little
Halloween figures gracing the pages along with many other
festive Halloween treats. This is one of those dreams that
I don't want to wake from, at least not anytime soon.

Somerset Holidays & Celebration 2008

Contrary to popular misconception, lightning often strikes the same place twice. According to NASA research, certain conditions are just ripe for a bolt of electricity to come zapping down. Opening my mail box today I got that tingly feeling once again when I saw the Somerset Holidays & Celebration issue. I was told that a few of my pieces were to be featured in this issue but I never really believed it until I actually opened the magazine and saw it for myself. So maybe there's some truth to the lightening strike statistic or maybe I own a magical mailbox. Whichever outside force is aligning my stars I am happily dancing under them.

The Dark Knight Dominates the Top 10 Halloween Costumes List

Our Top 10 Halloween Costumes List is now available at ExtremeHalloween.com. On that list, the Dark Knight costumes are the most popular choice for boys and men this Halloween.

The Batman costumes aren't the only Dark Knight costumes flying off the shelves. Because of Heath Ledger's amazing portrayal of the Joker, Joker costumes are also high in demand.

Annie's Costumes also has Batgirl costumes for girls who want to dress up like the Dark Knight.

If you're not into the Dark Knight, there are plenty of other Halloween costume ideas to choose from. Star Wars costumes and Hannah Montana are still popular favorites for this Halloween.

A Very Cool Find....

I just love these! Marth Stewart came out with a fantastic line for Halloween this year and it includes these wine labels. How fun for a Halloween party or just a gift for your favorite spook.

You can find Martha Stewart's Halloween line this year at Michaels, Archiver's and Walmart. I purchased these labels at Archiver's in Denver, CO...

Tiny Halloween Crowns now available in my Etsy shop! I love making these cute little crowns. I really do. Just one small, teeny, tiny, minuscule, annoying little problem. Glitter. It's everywhere. And I mean everywhere. Unfortunately, I forget to look in the mirror before I leave the house. It's only after receiving curious stares from grocery store clerks and carpool moms that I'm reminded to save showering until after glitter projects. Off to vacuum out the car...once again!

Pumpkin Milk Shakes

My dear friend and very talented artist, Carolee, mentioned the other day that she had a touch of Autumn fever. She went on about longing for the smell of woodsmoke, apple picking and pumpkin recipes. When she mentioned pumpkin recipes, I was reminded of one of my favorite Autumn treats, the Pumpkin Milk Shake. If you are a fan of anything pumpkin you really need to give this very simple recipe a try. The best part is that you don't even have to wait for Autumn to enjoy this treat!
2 cups Vanilla Ice Cream
1/2 cup Pumpkin Puree
3/4 cup Milk
1/4 teaspoon Cinnamon
and a dash of nutmeg
Place all ingredients in a blender. Cover and blend until smooth (about 15 seconds)
Top with whipped cream if desired.

Pumpkin Pedigree

The word Pumpkin dates back to the 17th century. It comes from the Old French, "pompion," in its turn derived from the Greek word for melon, "pepon," meaning "cooked by the sun," or ripe.

Pepon Pumpkin is just about complete. He will get his day in the sun very shortly.

WANTED: Cinderella, Snow White, Tinkerbell

Last week Cinderella, Snow White and Tinkerbell were arrested.

Ok, not really, but 32 protesters - some wearing Disney costumes - were arrested while gathering for a labor dispute involving Disneyland's most closely affiliated hotels.

The protesters were arrested under misdemeanor charges and have since been released.

For more on this story visit Yahoo! News and to get your own Disney Costume check out Annie's Costumes.

Depending on how you look at it, this is either the worst week of the year or the most anticipated. From both my daughters point of view the former opinion is held. Me, well let's just say the thought of having more than 15 minutes of uninterrupted alone time with my thoughts makes me feel positively giddy. So in honor of this most hallowed week of educating young minds I thought I'd do my part and share a small bit of my extensive ice cream knowledge.
Ice Cream 101!
• It takes 12lbs. of milk to make just one gallon of ice cream.
• The U.S. enjoys an average of 48 pints of ice cream per person, per year.
• It takes an average of 50 licks to polish off a single-scoop ice cream.
• The ice cream cone's invention is linked to the 1904 World's Fair. An ice cream vendor ran out of dishes while serving ice cream so he teamed up with the waffle vendor who rolled his waffles into cones.

Sending Packages To the Military?

If you are sending a package to military personnel for Halloween, Annie's Costumes can help. They have began to ramp up efforts to prepare for the busy season and help ensure the Halloween costumes arrive on time.

One big note is, if you are sending Halloween costume packages to the military, the orders must be placed roughly 15 - 17 days before you want the package to arrive.

Cravings

I'm not much of an ice cream fan. Given the choice, I'd much prefer a cookie, cake or brownie to satisfy my sweet tooth than a creamy, cold scoop. There is one exception though. Late in October I will stalk the local ice cream shops waiting for the annual, brief appearance of Pumpkin ice cream. Yum!
Seeing that October is just around the corner, I decided to pay homage to my annual ice cream pilgrimage, by creating these Kookie Kones. Enjoy!

Teenage, Mutant...Runners?

Imagine driving to work and passing a group of Ninja Turtles on your way. If you were in Maine this week, this may have happened to you.

There is a group of runners in Cape Elizabeth, Maine who run in costume. They have worn Batman, Superman, and Spider-man costumes in years past, but this year they decided to dress as the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Adorned in green under armor, yellow tank tops, green spandex, yellow shorts and topped off with face masks and turtle shells, the runners ran over 6 miles.

Half way through, their costumes earned them a snack. A local pizza restaurant gave the runners a slice of pizza as they ran by. The runners admitted it was hard to run and eat at the same time, but embraced their alter ego's appetite for the snack.
