Scariest Movie of the Decade?

The suddenly super-buzzed-about horror flick 'Paranormal Activity' was made for a mere $11,000 over the course of seven days -- and is now being called "the scariest movie of the decade." The film follows a young couple (Katie Featherston and Micah Sloat) who, convinced they're being haunted by spirits, set up a video camera to monitor their bedroom over the course of 20 nights.

Will it repeat the success of 'Blair Witch'? It's too early to tell, but the cards are falling into place -- last night in L.A., for example, 4,500 people lined up to try to get into a special screening. And 'Paranormal Activity' beats out 'Blair Witch' in one vital field: It's scarier. While 'Blair Witch' may have scared people away from the woods for a few years (like 'Jaws' did the water two decades earlier), who's going to stay away from their own bedroom? Consider yourselves warned.

Tim Burton inducted into the Halloween Hall of Fame

Academy Award-nominated director is recognized for his contribution through movies that have promoted Halloween and inspired costumes over the years

The Halloween Hall of Fame, an organization dedicated to promoting Halloween by sharing fun facts and other information, recognizes those who have contributed through music, movies, designing Halloween costumes and much more. This year, they have selected Tim Burton to be the next inductee into their Hall of Fame. The Academy Award-nominated director is recognized for his spooky film work including, "Nightmare Before Christmas", “Edward Scissorhands”, “The Corpse Bride" and many others.

Mr. Burton has produced several multi-million dollar movies that have inspired top selling Halloween costumes like “Batman" and "Planet of the Apes". Mr. Burton is joined by the existing hall of famers who have contributed to promoting Halloween and include Vincent Price, Lon Chaney, Jr., Bobby (Boris) Picket, Bella Lugosi, Elvira and Fred Gwynne.

“Tim Burton’s movies have had such an impact on the inspiration of the next greatest Halloween costumes. Due to his amazing vision, each one of his movies sets off a frenzy of ideas and demand for the next Tim Burton movie-inspired Halloween costumes,” said Harold B. Maxwell, Founder of the Halloween Hall of Fame. "The fact is, Halloween is fun, and we are so pleased to include a film director who shares our love of Halloween."

Each year, the Halloween Hall of Fame board recommends nominees and a new member is then selected by the public. Each nominee is added to the Halloween Hall of Fame website where the public votes. Just before Halloween, the votes are tallied and the public is then informed of the winner. Tim Burton won this year by a 20% margin, with John Carpenter coming second.

Halloween Costumes for the Ghosts and Horror Night

Halloween is that time of the year when witches, ghosts and monsters roam the face of Earth. On Halloween night, we love to play pranks on our friends and loved ones, dressed up as Halloween ghosts. What's Halloween without getting scared and goof ups? Halloween is supposed to be a night of horror. But be cautious while choosing your Halloween costume. Do not go overboard when you dress up for Halloween, or else you might end up giving heart attacks to the faint hearted ones: Children might get panic attacks if confronted suddenly by someone donning a gruesome Halloween costume. Just imagine how would you feel if you suddenly bump into someone dressed as the devil himself with bloodshot eyes? Surely you'll scream with fear!

While Halloween is all about spooky fun, shops and stores selling scary Halloween masks and props are galore. You just have to have little imagination to dress up like Halloween witches or Halloween ghosts! You can even order scary Halloween costumes, props and masks online. Many people prefer making their own Halloween costumes and get dressed up like mummies, zombies, monsters, and skeletons. Midnight Halloween horror night parties and creep shows are part of everyone's Halloween fun.

Several scary Halloween movies have been made, which are very popular among people of all ages. Among them, the 1978 original John Carpenter's film Halloween is still the hot favorite among all scary film lovers. Though several sequels have been made thereafter, the original film continues to give spooks and thrills, with its brilliant storyline and haunting musical score.
Speaking of Halloween witches, the 1982 horror film titled Halloween 3:Season of the Witch (the third sequel) is guaranteed to give you goosebumps on a scary Halloween night. This Halloween unleash your inner monster and get dressed as a Dracula, Headless Horseman, Wicked Jester, or the Howling Ghost. Scare the wits out of everyone!

Trick 'r Treat

In Theaters October 5, 2007

IMBD Plot Summary: Four interwoven stories that occur on Halloween: An everyday high school principal has a secret life as a serial killer; a college virgin might have just met the one guy for her; a group of teenagers pull a mean prank; a woman who loathes the night has to contend with her holiday-obsessed husband

It is said that Halloween is the night when the dead rise to walk among us and other unspeakable things roam free. The rituals of All Hallows Eve were devised to protect us from their evil mischief, and one small town is about to be taught a terrifying lesson that some traditions are best not forgotten. Nothing is what it seems when a suburban couple learns the dangers of blowing out a Jack-o-Lantern before midnight; four women cross paths with a costumed stalker at a local festival; a group of pranksters goes too far and discovers the horrifying truth buried in a local legend; and a cantankerous old hermit is visited by a strange trick-or-treater with a few bones to pick. Costumes and candy, ghouls and goblins, monsters and mayhem... the tricks and treats of Halloween turn deadly as strange creatures of every variety-human and otherwise-try to survive the scariest night of the year. Halloween: The Movie

Halloween horrorI'm an absolute movie buff, especially horror movies. John Carpenter's Halloween(1978), remains one of my favorites till date. Noted actor Jamie Lee Curtis made her first debut with this film. The film stars Donald Pleasence as Dr. Sam Loomis, Jamie Lee Curtis as Laurie Strode, and Nick Castle as Michael Myers. Critics credit Halloween as the first of the slasher films, being inspired by Psycho(1960).

Although Halloween was made with a meagre budget($325,000), it went on to become a huge hit, and grossed $47 million at the box office in the United States. An important reason of the success of Halloween, was its musical score, particularly the theme music. This film carved a niche for itself in the horror genre and went to produce several other sequels, including a remake. There's hardly any movie buff, who hasn't seen this film. Watch it once again, and get spooked!!!
